Womb Chairs

Eero Saarinen could not resist the challenge that Florence Knoll set upon him to make him a chair she could curl up in. Womb Chairs were designed and the first one released in 1948. The designer broke the traditional blueprints for furniture and created a chair made of fiberglass that would give with body weight in all the right places that was covered and padded. Saarinen, a Scandinavian designer was also known for his collaborations with renowned Charles Eaames. Their studies and creations in organic furniture broke new horizons and concepts of what contemporary furniture should be, look like, and feel like. The Womb Chair Eero Saarinen created was amongst a collection of dinning tables, office chairs, and the famous Tulip chair. His designs started in the early 19th century and are still being manufactured today.
